Best Flashlights of 2014

Now that 2014 is behind us the advent of the New Year provides an opportunity to reflect upon the year that was.  Over the past 12 months I’ve been fortunate to get my grubby paws on a lot of great products from some of the biggest names in the business, as well as a few that aren’t as well known.  This includes more than just flashlights, and in fact some of my favorite products have been the accessories and modifications that make my existing flashlights more useful.

Through it all there have been some products that stood out from the rest so I will start with a dozen noteworthy items that were reviewed here during 2014.  Some were brand new products, introduced during the past year, while others were simply new to me personally.

MDA Lockup Gene Malkoff

Help get Gene out of Jail and support MDA

If you’re familiar with the Muscular Dystrophy Association then you already know of their dedication to saving and improving lives of people fighting muscle disease.  Perhaps you also know how they provide health care, advocacy and education for those who are in need.  These good deeds require money and MDA relies heavily on donations from those who are able to help those that can’t.

As part of the fund raising activities each year numerous people volunteer to go to “jail” in support of this great cause in the hopes that their friends, co-workers, business associates and customers will raise enough bail money to set them free.  Of course they won’t really stay in jail if the money isn’t raised but they often make up the difference out of their own pockets. New Specs for Malkoff Devices MDC

Malkoff MDCThe Malkoff MDC, for Malkoff Daily Carry, series will soon be programmed with a different switching scheme.  The MDC will no longer feature a strobe mode, instead offering three levels of constant output – 250 lumens, 25 lumens, and 3 lumens.

In normal use, the MDC is designed to turn on in its lowest mode first with the mode advancing each time the light is activated.  If the MDC is left on for more than 2 seconds, the next off/on cycle will return the light to the lowest mode.

As with the previous versions, the MDC is still equipped with a Cree XP-G2 emitter and is designed for use with CR123 lithium primary batteries or LiFePO4 rechargeable batteries.  Lithium-Ion (RCR123) batteries are not supported.

Additional information can be found at the Malkoff Devices website.
