As I was preparing for an upcoming trip to San Diego, California I couldn’t help but notice that I would be a mere two hour drive from Fountain Valley, the birthplace of the many SureFire flashlights in my collection. As a certifiable flashlight nut (flashaholic) I just couldn’t pass up this opportunity without attempting to visit their facilities while on the West Coast. The L1 LumaMax represented one of SureFire’s initial entries into the light emitting diode (LED) class of lighting tools. It was among the first to utilize a digitally controlled micro-processor to regulate the amount of power provided to the LED allowing the light output to remain steady and constant as the batteries are depleted.
First introduced in the 2002 catalog, the L1 underwent several design changes over its production life-span, including modifications to the head, body, LED, and electronics. To distinguish between the different versions, collectors often classify the L1 into one of six different “generations” based upon its design.
The L1 utilized a two-stage tactical switch giving users the ability to press slightly for momentary-on low mode or press fully for momentary-on high mode. Constant-on could be achieved by slightly twisting the tailcap for low and twisting further for high mode.

The SureFire M6 Guardian is an Ultra high-output incandescent flashlight for tactical, duty, or searchlight use. Effectively a wider-bodied, slightly heavier, more powerful version of the M3T CombatLight, the M6 features a shock-isolated 2.5″ bezel which provides extra recoil and impact protection for the lamp filament. The M6 comes equipped with both the MN20 and MN21 lamp assemblies.
Over the course of its production history, the M6 has gone by a variety of names including MagnumLight, Millennium Magnum, and finally Guardian. Due to its larger body size, the M6 uses a unique tailcap that is not interchangeable with any other handheld SureFire lights. The bezel threads match those found on the M3 and M4 Devastator.
The SureFire M4 Devastator is a high-intensity incandescent flashlight for tactical, duty, or searchlight use. The M4 features a 2.5″ TurboHead to provide a longer reaching beam.
The M4 Devastator features a shock-isolation system in the bezel which provides extra recoil and impact protection for the lamp filament and comes equipped with both the MN60 and MN61 lamp assemblies.
The modular design of the M4 Devastator allows it to share many accessories with other SureFire lights. The tailcap threads are compatible with other C/P/Z-series lights while the bezel threads match those found on the SureFire M3 CombatLight, M3T CombatLight, and M6 Guardian. As a result, the M4 can be assembled, without the use of tools, into a wide variety of configurations.
The SureFire M3T CombatLight is the turbo-head version of the M3 CombatLight. Featuring a larger 2.5″ TurboHead reflector, the M3T is a high-intensity incandescent flashlight for tactical, duty, or searchlight use. The ergonomic rubber grip ring allows the M3 CombatLight to be operated with a handgun, using the SureFire technique.
The M3T CombatLight features a shock-isolation system in the bezel which provides extra recoil and impact protection for the lamp filament and comes equipped with both the MN15 and MN16 lamp assemblies.

The M3 is somewhat similar to the M2 Centurion but slightly longer and nearly twice as powerful. The ergonomic rubber grip ring allows the M3 CombatLight to be operated with a handgun, using the SureFire technique.

The SureFire M2 Centurion features an ergonomically designed combat grip body, a belt/pocket clip and a Lock-Out Tail Cap. The M2 was marketed as a compact, high-intensity incandescent flashlight for tactical and duty use or conditions requiring enhanced grip.
The original M2 design used a standard bezel assembly which was replaced in 2001 with a shock-isolated bezel to withstand recoil or impact. This led to the introduction of the C2 Centurion which was essentially the same as the earlier M2 Centurion.
The M2 Centurion comes standard with both the P60 and P61 lamp assemblies along with a wrist lanyard. Due to its modular design, the M2 Centurion can use many of the same accessories as C2 Centurion.
The SureFire M1 Infrared Illuminator has a hard anodized finish and produces a beam of infrared light for use with night vision devices or weapon scopes.
The M1 has rubber rings around the circumference of its body to improve grip and comes standard with a lanyard and attachment ring.
Introduced in 2007, the SureFire G3 Nitrolon is a 9 volt version of the popular G2 Nitrolon. Constructed of lightweight, corrosion-proof Nitrolon polymer, the G3 Nitrolon utilizes the same higher output lamp assemblies as the 9P Original, providing up to 200 lumens output with the P91 incandescent lamp assembly.
The SureFire G3 retained the same basic dimensions as the 9P Original allowing many of the same parts and accessories to work with either version.
The SureFire G2 Nitrolon is a compact polymer bodied personal flashlight, similar in design to the 6P Original. The G2 provides a lighter and corrosion-proof alternative to the 6P, available in various colors.
The SureFire G2 retained the same basic dimensions as the 6P Original allowing many of the same parts and accessories to work with either version.
